BEFORE PREGNANCY
Planning For Pregnancy
Every pregnancy journey is unique, and thoughtful preparation is an important step toward a healthy start for both mother and baby.
Preconception assessment can benefit everyone, but is especially important if you have medical, genetic, or previous pregnancy-related risk factors. I provide individualised care tailored to your needs.
This may include:
A comprehensive health assessment.
Optimisation of existing conditions.
Medication and lifestyle review.
Nutritional guidance.
A personalised plan for conception and pregnancy.
Early specialist planning for those with previous pregnancy complications or high-risk conditions.
Where additional specialist input is beneficial, I will help coordinate your care with the appropriate specialists and healthcare professionals. I work collaboratively with your care team, ensuring that your individual needs, preferences, and priorities remain at the heart of every decision.

Labour and birth management — experienced obstetric care throughout labour and delivery, with a focus on safe, supportive and informed decision-making.
Postnatal care — ongoing support and medical care following birth, with attention to your recovery and wellbeing.
Questions About My Obstetric Services

Ideally, preconception care begins 3–6 months before you start trying to conceive. This gives enough time to optimise any existing medical conditions, review medications, and address any modifiable risk factors. However, it's never too late to benefit from a preconception consultation — even a single visit before conception can be valuable.
-
While preconception care can benefit anyone planning a pregnancy, it's especially recommended if you have a pre-existing medical condition (such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease, or an autoimmune condition), a history of pregnancy complications or loss, a family or personal history of genetic conditions, or if you are planning pregnancy after the age of 35.

Yes — this is one of the most valuable times to seek specialist input. Planning another pregnancy after a difficult experience can understandably bring worry or anxiety, and having a clear, informed plan in place can make you feel prepared and supported. As a maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist, I can review your previous pregnancy history, identify any modifiable risk factors, and put a plan in place to support the safest possible outcome in your next pregnancy.
-
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is a subspecialty qualification that means that your obstetrician has formal training and experience in looking after maternal medical conditions in pregnancy, fetal conditions and complications identified in pregnancy, and holds qualifications in diagnostic ultrasound. In Australia, becoming a Certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialist (CMFM) requires a minimum of three years of additional training and examinations beyond specialist obstetric qualification.
-
Not at all. I provide care for all pregnancies, from straightforward to complex, and welcome patients at any stage — including preconception, early pregnancy, or later referral. Choosing a specialist obstetrician with maternal-fetal medicine training means that, should an unexpected pregnancy complication arise, you already have continuity of care with a specialist equipped to manage and coordinate your care.

A referral from your GP or another specialist is required to claim a Medicare rebate for your consultation.
